New Philadelphia began as many others had before: out of nothing. It is unknown when the first inhabitants of the City's land initially emigrated there, but it is believed to be circa August of 2018. The first night spent on New Philadelphian soil was spent in a shelter constructed out of a natural mountain. This structure can be found today, restored to what it was believed to look like, at the First Night Museum on Essential Street in Downtown.
These first settlers planned to begin a settlement in the area we now know as Downtown, until another settler arrived and found some pre-built structures, some of which have been preserved or recreated near the north end of JFK Boulevard. Despite being the earliest of the time periods of the City, this stage saw the City's highest population numbers, even today.
This time lasted until circa December of 2018.
The Revolution is known as the largest armed conflict in the City's history. At this time, the City did not have a government, it had yet to even receive its name! At the time, Grandma's Cakes was the largest business in the region.
The Revolution began following a seemingly unprovoked assassination of Grandma's Cakes' mascot and, according to some accounts, heart and soul, by the formerly-peaceful Regal_Insanity. The assassin then rallied with a group of individuals, claiming that the 'ruler' at the time was tyrannical, despite no formal leadership existing.
The conflict saw numerous casualties, the names of whom have been immortalized on the Revolution Memorial.
The end of the Revolution was brought when people were able to eliminate the leader of the movement, Regal_Insanity. He, along with his band of cohorts, were exiled by the people, although they are being allowed to return now, two years later.
The Revolution is seen today as the darkest point in the City's history.
Stage 1 began following the Revolution, on December 8, 2018. This day saw the creation of our formal government with the New Philadelphia Lawbook. While today this document only acts as a rough reference source to the City's many laws, at the time it was all of the laws to which citizens were held. This date is when the City was named and when the first draft of the seal was created.
The purpose for the creation of this government was to stifle any beliefs or instances of wrongdoing so that each person living in the City could be equally entitled to the same pursuits and standards of living. While this government was rudimentary and reserved, it served its purpose for the time that it was used.
The government in Stage 2, while looking and acting very similar to Stage 1, is different in every way. The New Philadelphia Charter was begun on February 4, 2020 (Then titled The Official Library of New Philadelphia Statutes). This document both clearly defined every expectation to which citizens and the government are held and created a more comprehensive government system which allowed for the protection of every aspect of the City.
This is the stage in which we live today, and it has seen to be the most successful of each of the points in the City's history.
We, as citizens of New Philadelphia, are proud of the system and the community which we have created.
This was only our history, and, while we've done a lot in a couple short years, the future is yet to be written.
